Ingredients

For the Wontons:

1 cup ground pork

1/2 cup shrimp, minced

3 green onions, finely chopped

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1 garlic clove, minced

1 package wonton wrappers

For the Broth:

6 cups chicken or vegetable broth

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 inch piece of ginger, sliced

2 cloves garlic, smashed

1 carrot, julienned

2 cups baby bok choy or spinach

Salt and pepper to taste

Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Wonton Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the ground pork, minced shrimp, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, and garlic until well combined.

Assemble the Wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper over to create a triangle, and press to seal. Bring the two corners together and pinch to form a traditional wonton shape. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Make the Broth: In a large pot, combine the chicken or vegetable broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, sliced ginger, and smashed garlic. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and let it cook for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Cook the Wontons: Gently slide the prepared wontons into the simmering broth. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float and the filling is cooked through.

Add Vegetables: Once the wontons are cooked, add the julienned carrots and bok choy (or spinach) to the pot. Let simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

Season and Serve: Taste the broth and adjust with salt and pepper as desired. Ladle the soup into bowls, garnish with sliced green onions, and enjoy your cozy wonton soup!
