Nachos have a rich history that dates back to the 1940s when they were first created in Piedras Negras, Mexico, by a group of U.S. military wives. The original dish consisted of tortilla chips topped with melted cheese and jalapeños, a simple yet delicious combination that quickly gained popularity. Over the years, nachos have evolved into a versatile dish, with variations that include a wide array of toppings such as guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and even proteins like chicken or beef. This adaptability has solidified nachos as a beloved snack or appetizer in homes and restaurants around the world.

Ingredients

1 bag frozen waffle fries (about 24 oz)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon

1 cup diced tomatoes

1/2 cup sliced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)

1/4 cup sliced green onions

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup guacamole

1/4 cup salsa

Optional: chopped cilantro for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Waffle Fries: Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the waffle fries package. Spread the frozen waffle fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake according to package instructions until golden and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Layer the Nachos: Once the waffle fries are done, remove them from the oven. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses evenly over the fries.

Add Toppings: Distribute the crumbled bacon, diced tomatoes, and sliced jalapeños over the cheese. Then, top with the remaining cheese to ensure everything melts together beautifully.

Melt the Cheese: Return the loaded waffle fries to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, sprinkle sliced green onions over the top. Serve the nachos hot, accompanied by sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on the side. Optionally, garnish with chopped cilantro for an extra burst of flavor.

Enjoy: Grab your fork or dig in with your hands and enjoy these decadent waffle fry nachos!
