Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 red bell pepper, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

2 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp chili powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hamburger buns

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 4-5 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Add the chopped onion and red bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

In a mixing bowl, combine the tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet, stirring to combine with the meat and vegetables. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Toast the hamburger buns lightly on a skillet or in the oven if desired.

Serve the sloppy joe mixture generously on the toasted buns. Garnish with fresh parsley if using.

Enjoy your delicious sloppy joes with a side of potato chips or a fresh salad!
