Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chunks (milk or dark chocolate)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, followed by the eggs, and vanilla.

        - Mix in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Do not overmix.

          - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Set aside.

            Prepare the Cookie Layer:

              - In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                - Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.

                  - In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

                    - Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chunks.

                      Layer the Browkies:

                        - Scoop dollops of the cookie dough over the brownie layer in the baking pan. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to gently spread and cover the brownie batter. It's okay if some brownie batter shows through; it will create a marbled effect.

                          Bake:

                            - Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter). Avoid overbaking to maintain the fudgy texture.

                              Cool and Serve:

                                - Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy warm or at room temperature!
