Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 red Thai chilies, sliced (adjust for spice level)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 teaspoon sugar

1 cup jasmine rice

1 ½ cups water

1 cucumber, sliced (for garnish)

Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Cook the Rice: Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium pot, combine the rinsed rice and 1 ½ cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.

Prepare the Beef Mix: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced Thai chilies, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Cook the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the Sauce: Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar. Mix well and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the beef is coated and flavors meld.

Incorporate Basil: Just before serving, turn off the heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves, allowing them to wilt slightly from the residual heat.

Serve: On a plate, serve a generous scoop of jasmine rice alongside the Thai Basil Beef. Garnish with sliced cucumber and serve with lime wedges for an added zesty flavor.
