Ingredients

3-4 lbs pork shoulder, bone-in

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon garlic powder

2 teaspoons onion powder

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup low-sodium chicken broth

1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed for best flavor)

1 onion, coarsely chopped

6 cloves garlic, whole

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Spice Rub: In a small bowl, combine the smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the spices are evenly blended.

Season the Pork: Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork, ensuring it’s well-coated on all sides. Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes to deepen the flavors (you can also marinate it overnight in the refrigerator for maximum flavor).

Sear the Pork: In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned pork shoulder and sear it on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.

Prepare the Slow Cooker: Transfer the seared pork shoulder to the slow cooker. Add the chopped onion and whole garlic cloves around the pork. Pour in the chicken broth, orange juice, and apple cider vinegar.

Slow Cook the Pork: Cover the slow cooker and set it to low heat. Cook for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, carefully remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before shredding it with two forks.

Serve: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, mixing it with the juices. Taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary.

Garnish and Enjoy: Serve the shredded pork on its own, or in tacos, sandwiches, or over rice. Garnish each serving with fresh cilantro for added flavor.
