Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

1 large onion, sliced

1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons ginger, minced

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

½ cup beef broth

1 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Cooked rice, for serving

Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, black pepper, and minced ginger. Mix thoroughly and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours for more flavor).

Prepare the Vegetables: While the steak is marinating, slice the onion and bell pepper. Set aside.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat until it shimmers.

Cook the Steak: Remove the steak from the marinade, ensuring to shake off excess marinade. Add the steak to the hot skillet in a single layer. Sear for 2-3 minutes until browned, then flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.

Stir-fry the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if necessary, then add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the beef broth and drizzle with sesame oil. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Serve: Serve the sizzling pepper steak over a bed of hot cooked rice, garnished with chopped green onions.
