Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

Make the crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough comes together. It's okay if it's crumbly—this will form the base.

Press the crust: Spoon the dough into the lined pan and press it evenly into the bottom. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Prepare the apple filling: While the crust is baking, in a separate bowl, toss the diced apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar until evenly coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

Layer the filling: Once the crust is done, remove it from the oven and immediately spread the apple mixture evenly over the base. Drizzle half of the salted caramel sauce over the apples.

Bake again: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and bubbly.

Finish with caramel: Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool slightly. Once cooled, drizzle the remaining salted caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle lightly with sea salt.

Cool and cut: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting out the parchment and cutting into squares.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 12 bars

                    - Presentation Tips: Serve the bars on a beautiful platter, garnished with a sprinkle of sea salt and a drizzle of extra caramel sauce. For an extra touch, pair with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
