Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1 small onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg, beaten

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup beef broth

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, half of the diced onion, garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined but do not overmix.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining diced onion and sliced mushrooms. Cook for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are tender.

Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and stir it in to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

Gradually whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce, making sure there are no lumps. Add dried thyme and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Return the cooked patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer for another 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.

Serve the Salisbury steak warm, drizzled with the rich mushroom gravy and garnished with chopped parsley.
