Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1 ½ cups vegetable oil

1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

2 large eggs, room temperature

2 tablespoons red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon white vinegar

For Cream Cheese Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

8 oz cream cheese, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans and set aside.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder until fully combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until well blended.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Pour into Pans: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat until creamy and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).

Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and repeat. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining cream cheese frosting.

Decorate: For an extra touch, sprinkle some red velvet cake crumbs on the top or decorate with fresh berries or edible flowers.

                      Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes | Servings: 12

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve chilled with a dollop of cream cheese frosting on the side. Optionally, garnish with a few fresh raspberries and mint leaves for color.
