Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warm

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

1 tablespoon red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

½ cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (to desired consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Wet Ingredients: Add melted butter, eggs, cocoa powder, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until well combined.

Incorporate Flour: Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, kneading as necessary. Continue until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes or until smooth and elastic.

Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

Roll out the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.

Apply Butter and Filling: Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then evenly sprinkle the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture and chopped nuts (if using) on top.

Roll and Slice: Starting at one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Cut into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.

Second Rise: Place the sliced rolls into a greased baking dish (9x13) leaving some space between them. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Once the rolls have risen, bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese and softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Add milk as needed for desired consistency.

Frost Rolls: After baking, allow rolls to cool slightly before generously drizzling the cream cheese frosting over the top.

Serve and Enjoy! Serve warm and enjoy the delightful combination of red velvet and cinnamon roll goodness!
