Ingredients

1 loaf of fresh Italian bread (or French bread)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup sliced pepperoni

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup pizza sauce (for dipping)

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Slice the Italian bread into a checkerboard pattern, cutting down to the bottom but not through it (don’t cut all the way, or the bread will fall apart).

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using).

Carefully spread the garlic butter mixture between the slices of bread, ensuring that each slice is coated.

Stuff each cut with a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices.

Once the bread is stuffed, sprinkle the top with grated Parmesan cheese and any leftover mozzarella and pepperoni.

Wrap the stuffed bread in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serve warm with pizza sauce for dipping and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
