Ingredients

8 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or your choice)

1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 cup baking soda

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Mustard or cheese sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In another large bowl, mix the flour and sea salt together. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda carefully (it will bubble!).

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 12 inches) and wrap it around each hot dog spirally, pinching the ends to seal.

Using a slotted spoon, carefully place each wrapped hot dog into the boiling baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Brush each pretzel dog with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping!
