Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

1 cup smoked sausage, sliced (like kielbasa or andouille)

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup milk

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon thyme (dried or fresh)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.

In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well mixed.

Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the greased baking dish, slightly overlapping them.

Sprinkle half of the smoked sausage slices over the potatoes.

Pour half of the cream mixture over the potato and sausage layer, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Then sprinkle a layer of shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, sausage, cream mixture, and finish with the rest of the cheddar cheese and Parmesan on top, ensuring a good cheesy crust.

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.

Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped green onions for added freshness and color.
