Ingredients

4-5 lbs boneless pork shoulder

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon chili powder

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

1 cup chicken broth

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup barbecue sauce (your choice)

6 hamburger buns (for serving)

Coleslaw (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Prepare the Rub: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Season the Pork: Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated on all sides.

Create the Cooking Liquid: In a large roasting pan, combine the chicken broth and apple cider vinegar. Place the seasoned pork shoulder fat-side up in the pan.

Cover Tightly: Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil to trap moisture during cooking.

Roast the Pork: Place the pan in the preheated oven and roast for approximately 4-5 hours, or until the pork is fork-tender and easily shreds.

Uncover and Glaze: After roasting, remove the foil and brush the pork with barbecue sauce. Roast for an additional 30 minutes uncovered to caramelize the sauce slightly.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

Serve: Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns topped with coleslaw if desired, along with additional barbecue sauce on the side.

                    Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 5 hours 20 minutes | Servings: 6-8
