Ingredients

1 teaspoon of high-quality matcha green tea powder

2 ounces (60 ml) hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)

Optional: 1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup (for sweetness)

Optional: 2 ounces (60 ml) steamed milk (dairy or plant-based) for a matcha latte

Optional: A pinch of vanilla extract

Instructions

Sift the Matcha: Begin by sifting 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. This helps remove any clumps and ensures a smooth drink.

Add Hot Water: Pour 2 ounces of hot water (not boiling) over the sifted matcha. If desired, add honey or agave syrup at this step for sweetness.

Whisk: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small whisk, vigorously whisk the matcha until it becomes frothy and well combined. If you want a more robust flavor, whisk until the surface is covered with small bubbles.

Optional Matcha Latte: If you prefer a matcha latte, heat and steam your milk separately. Combine the frothed matcha mixture with the steamed milk and mix gently, adding a pinch of vanilla extract if desired.

Serve: Pour the matcha tea or latte into a cup. Enjoy hot or over ice.

Garnish (optional): For an added touch, sprinkle a pinch of matcha powder or cinnamon on top.
