Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs

Salt and pepper to taste

4 cups mashed potatoes (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup ketchup (for topping)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared baking dish, shaping it into a loaf form. Make sure it's evenly spread across the dish.

Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

While the meatloaf is baking, mix the mashed potatoes with milk and half of the shredded cheddar cheese until creamy and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

After 30 minutes, remove the meatloaf from the oven. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meatloaf.

Drizzle ketchup on top of the mashed potatoes, creating a decorative squiggle across the surface.

Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the meat mixture reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).

Once done, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
