Ingredients

4 fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or snapper)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 lemons (1 for juice, 1 for slices)

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation: Begin by patting the fish fillets dry with a paper towel. This ensures they sear beautifully. Season each fillet generously with salt and pepper on both sides.

Melt the Butter: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Allow it to foam slightly but not brown.

Add Garlic and Thyme: Once the butter is melted and bubbly, add the minced garlic and fresh thyme. Sauté for about 30 seconds, or until the garlic becomes fragrant but not burnt.

Cook the Fish: Place the fish fillets in the skillet, skin-side down if applicable. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes without moving them, allowing a nice golden crust to form.

Flip the Fillets: Carefully flip each fillet and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and the juice of one lemon into the skillet. Baste the fish with the melted lemon butter for added flavor and moisture. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Add Lemon Slices: During the last minute of cooking, add the lemon slices to the skillet, letting them soften and infuse their flavor into the sauce.

Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the fish fillets to a serving platter, drizzle with the lemon butter sauce from the pan, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve immediately with your favorite side dish!
