Italian Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
  

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup high-quality dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), chopped

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of sea salt

Whipped cream for topping

Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls for garnish

A sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions
 

In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

    Once the mixture is warm but not boiling, add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and a pinch of sea salt. Continue stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

      Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.

        For an extra frothy texture, you can use an immersion blender to blend the hot chocolate for a few seconds.

          Pour the rich hot chocolate into mugs, filling them about three-quarters full.
