Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups marinara sauce

4 sub rolls

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian herbs, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined without overworking the meat.

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Form the meat mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs (about 1.5 inches in diameter), placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.

While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them to the sauce and let them simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.

To assemble the subs, place 3-4 meatballs inside each roll and generously spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs.

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the meatballs and place the assembled subs on a baking sheet.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove the subs from the oven and garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
