1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups flaked sweetened coconut

1 cup chopped pecans

For the Topping:

Instructions

Prepare the Cake:

    - Preheat the oven according to package instructions for the German chocolate cake.

      - Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.

        - Prepare the cake mix as per the package instructions, then pour it into the prepared baking pan.

          Bake the Cake:

            - Bake in the preheated oven for the time indicated on the box (typically 30-35 minutes), or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

              - Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then poke holes throughout the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.

                Soak the Cake:

                  - In a small saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips over medium heat.

                    - Stir until the chocolate chips are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

                      - Pour this chocolate mixture evenly over the poked cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.

                        Prepare the Coconut-Pecan Frosting:

                          - In another saucepan, combine evaporated milk, granulated sugar, unsalted butter, and beaten egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens, around 10 minutes.

                            - Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, coconut, and chopped pecans. Allow to cool slightly.

                              Frost the Cake:

                                - Spread the coconut-pecan frosting evenly over the chocolate-soaked cake.

                                  - Let the cake cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator for faster chilling.

                                    Serve:

                                      - For an extra touch, you can top with whipped cream or additional frosting if desired. Garnish with extra chopped pecans before serving.

                                        - Cut into squares and enjoy your delicious homemade German Chocolate Poke Cake!
