Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

1 ½ teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of flour and salt. Mix well.

Combine: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil.

Knead Dough: Using a wooden spoon, mix until a rough dough forms. Then, transfer it onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if it's too sticky.

First Rise: Lightly grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air and divide it into 2-4 equal portions depending on your preferred pizza size. Form each portion into a ball.

Second Rise: Shape the balls and place them on a floured surface. Cover again and let them rise for about 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to its highest setting (usually around 475°F/245°C) while the dough is resting. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven as it preheats.

Roll Out: On a floured surface, take one ball of dough and use a rolling pin or your hands to stretch it out into a circular shape about 12 inches in diameter.

Add Toppings: Transfer the rolled dough to a cornmeal-dusted pizza peel or baking tray. Add your desired sauce, cheese, and toppings.

Bake: Slide the pizza onto your preheated pizza stone or place it in the oven directly on the baking tray. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy your homemade pizza with friends and family!
