Ingredients

9 lasagna noodles

1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

24 ounces ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 egg

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain excess fat if necessary.

In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper together until well combined.

Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat mixture, and one-third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layering with 3 more noodles, remaining ricotta, remaining meat mixture, and another third of mozzarella. Top with the last 3 noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you may want to spray the foil with cooking spray).

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Allow the lasagna to cool for about 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve.
