Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned preferred)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 jar (about 24 oz) marinara sauce

4 sub rolls or hoagie buns

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Olive oil for frying

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Form the meat mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a baking sheet.

In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, browning each side for about 3-4 minutes. They don’t need to be fully cooked through yet.

Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a baking dish and pour the marinara sauce over them, ensuring they are well covered.

Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F or 70°C).

While the meatballs are baking, slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise but not all the way through.

Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and uncover. Place the sub rolls on a clean baking sheet and fill them with 2-3 meatballs each, spooning additional marinara sauce over the top.

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the filled subs.

Return the subs to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve hot.

                        Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 50 minutes | Servings: 4

                          - Presentation Tips: Serve the meatball subs on a rustic wooden platter, with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Add a sprinkle of Parmesan and freshly chopped herbs on top for added flavor and visual appeal.
