Ingredients

12 string cheese sticks (mozzarella)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Cooking spray or oil (for frying)

Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

Prepare the Cheese: Start by unwrapping the cheese sticks and placing them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape during frying.

Set Up Breading Station: In three shallow dishes, prepare your breading station. In the first dish, add the flour. In the second dish, beat the eggs. In the third dish, mix the seasoned breadcrumbs, dried herbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Coat the Cheese Sticks: Take the frozen cheese sticks out of the freezer. First, roll each stick in the flour, ensuring it’s fully coated. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, followed by the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure to coat thoroughly and gently press the breadcrumbs to help them adhere. Repeat this process for all the cheese sticks.

Chill Again: Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and return them to the freezer for 15 more minutes. This step will help create a crispy outer layer.

Fry the Sticks: In a large skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until hot (you can test it by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle). Carefully add the mozzarella sticks in batches, frying them for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Drain and Serve: Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried mozzarella sticks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
