Ingredients

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ tsp baking powder

1 ½ tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

2 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

½ cup sour cream

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or frosting for decoration

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes.

Incorporate Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water. This will make the batter quite thin, but it’s necessary for a moist cake.

Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and sour cream to enhance the creaminess of the batter.

Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes: Remove from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frost or Serve: Once cool, you can frost the cake with your favorite chocolate frosting or dust with powdered sugar for a simpler presentation. Cut into slices and enjoy your decadent chocolate fudge cake!
