Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

200g thinly sliced deli ham

200g grated cheddar cheese

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth it out. Cut the pastry into rectangles (about 10 cm x 5 cm).

Assemble the Stacks: Place half of the pastry rectangles on the baking tray. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each, then layer slices of ham and a generous amount of grated cheddar cheese on top.

Stack and Seal: Place the remaining rectangles of pastry on top of the layered ham and cheese. Gently press down to seal the edges. Use a fork to crimp the edges to ensure they’re sealed tightly.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the pastry stacks with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden color as they bake.

Season: Sprinkle black pepper and garlic powder on top for extra flavor.

Bake: Bake the pastry stacks in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.
