Cake or cupcakes for decorating

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy (about 2 minutes).

Gradually add the powdered sugar, continuing to mix until well combined and the mixture becomes fluffy.

Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, and mix again until smooth, adjusting the consistency by adding more milk if necessary.

Divide the buttercream into separate bowls, depending on the number of colors you want to use.

Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until you reach your desired shade. Remember, colors can intensify after sitting for a while, so mix conservatively.

Prepare piping bags by fitting them with the desired piping tips. Fill each piping bag with a different color of buttercream.

To practice your piping skills, use parchment paper or a practice board. Practice rosettes, shells, and other designs before applying them to your cake or cupcakes.

Once you feel confident, pipe your designs directly onto your cake or cupcakes using smooth, even pressure. Start from the center and work your way outward, or from the base to the top of your cake.

Use an offset spatula to smooth any edges or create a clean finish if desired.

Allow your decorated cake or cupcakes to set at room temperature for the buttercream to firm up, then serve and enjoy!
