8 oz egg noodles or fettuccine

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Zest of 1 lemon

1/4 cup toasted pine nuts (or your preferred nuts)

Begin by bringing a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles or fettuccine and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain and set aside.
