Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

3/4 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1 pound breakfast sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)

2 cups milk

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for thickening)

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or oven-safe skillet.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Create a well in the center.

In another bowl, mix the buttermilk with melted butter, garlic powder, and onion powder. Slowly pour this mixture into the well of the dry ingredients, stirring to combined until a dough forms.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it gently 4-5 times. Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass, and place them in the prepared baking dish or skillet.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess grease.

In a separate saucepan, combine the milk and 1/4 cup of flour over medium heat. Whisk continuously until the mixture thickens and is smooth, about 4-5 minutes. Season with black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).

Once the gravy has thickened, fold in the cooked sausage.

Pour the sausage gravy mixture evenly over the biscuits in the baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

                      Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 6-8
