Ingredients

4 large croissants, torn into bite-sized pieces

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup diced cooked bacon (or sausage)

1/2 cup diced bell peppers (any color)

1/2 cup diced onion

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Salt to taste

Fresh herbs for garnish (chives or parsley)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Stir in garlic powder, black pepper, and a bit of salt.

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the torn croissant pieces evenly on the bottom.

Scatter half of the diced bell peppers, onion, and cooked bacon (or sausage) over the croissant layer. Then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.

Add the remaining croissant pieces in another layer, followed by the rest of the vegetables and bacon. Finish with the remaining cheese on top.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients, ensuring everything is soaked well. Press down gently with a spatula to compress the layers.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature (or refrigerate for up to overnight, allowing the flavors to meld).

Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the strata is puffed up and golden brown on top.

Once baked, allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
