Ingredients

12 large pasta shells

1 pound ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup marinara sauce, plus extra for serving

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg

Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Shells: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Beef Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat. Stir in 1 cup of marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Make the Ricotta Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Stuff the Shells: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Take each pasta shell and fill it with a spoonful of the beef mixture followed by a spoonful of the ricotta mixture. Place the stuffed shells in the baking dish, seam side up.

Top with Sauce and Cheese: Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells. Sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella cheese on top.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serve: Let the shells cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy!
