The Original Joe Sandwich Delicious Culinary Delight
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or plant-based substitute)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 0.5 cup bell pepper, finely chopped (any color)
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce for a vegetarian option)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 tsp paprika
- 1 Prise salt to taste
- 1 Prise pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls or burger buns
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 Prise pickled jalapeños (optional, for garnish)
- 1 Prise fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or plant-based substitute). Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if using beef.
- Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and translucent.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- While the mixture is simmering, slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
- Once the mixture is ready, spoon it into each roll, generously filling them.
- Top each filled sandwich with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Optionally, top with pickled jalapeños and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
💡 Chef's Notes
Serve the sandwiches on colorful plates, with a side of crispy potato chips or a simple salad. You can also wrap them in parchment paper for a casual, deli-style presentation.
