Ingredients

  • 2 pieces large chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 Prise salt to taste
  • 1 Prise pepper to taste
  • 1 cup oil for frying
  • 2 cups waffle mix
  • 1 Prise maple syrup for drizzling
  • 1 Prise fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce (if using). Submerge the chicken breasts in the mixture, cover, and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours for better flavor.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat (enough to submerge the chicken halfway).
  4. Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. Allow it to drip off excess buttermilk, then coat each piece generously in the seasoned flour, shaking off the excess.
  5. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for about 5-7 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C). Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. While the chicken is frying, prepare the waffles according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Cook until golden brown.
  7. Serve the hot, crispy chicken on top of the waffles. Drizzle generously with maple syrup and garnish with fresh berries if desired.

💡 Chef's Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken longer if time allows.
