Ingredients

  • 2 cups green apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 cups apple juice
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon citric acid
  • 2 tablespoons agar-agar powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch cornstarch for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the chopped green apples and apple juice. Blend until smooth, then transfer to a saucepan.
  2. Stir in the lemon juice, granulated sugar, citric acid, salt, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat until the mixture begins to simmer, stirring occasionally.
  3. Sprinkle the agar-agar powder into the mixture. Stir thoroughly to ensure it's fully dissolved. Continue cooking for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x9 inch pan, spreading it evenly. Allow it to cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, then transfer it to the refrigerator to set for at least 2 hours.
  5. Once set, remove the fruit chews from the pan. Use a sharp knife to cut them into small squares. Dust each square with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  6. Serve the fruit chews immediately or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
