French Onion Meatloaf Savory Comfort Food Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup French onion soup
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 tsp dried thyme
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1 Prise fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until golden brown and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Add the minced garlic in the last 2 minutes of cooking, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, eggs, salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Mix well until fully incorporated.
- Fold in the caramelized onions and garlic mixture along with the French onion soup and half of the Gruyère cheese. Mix gently until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère cheese on top of the meatloaf.
- Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Once cooked, remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to retain its juices.
- Slice and serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
