Delicious Pretzel Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
- 8 pieces hot dogs (beef, turkey, or your choice)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 0.25 cup baking soda
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 Prise coarse sea salt (for topping)
- 1 Prise mustard or cheese sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In another large bowl, mix the flour and sea salt together. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda carefully (it will bubble!).
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 12 inches) and wrap it around each hot dog spirally, pinching the ends to seal.
- Using a slotted spoon, carefully place each wrapped hot dog into the boiling baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel dog with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping!
