Ingredients

  • 3 pieces ripe bananas, sliced
  • 0.25 cups brown sugar
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter
  • 1 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar until dissolved. Pour this mixture into the bottom of the prepared cake pan.
  3. Arrange the banana slices evenly over the brown sugar mixture in the pan.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until evenly mixed.
  5. In another mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  6. Alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk to the sugar and egg mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  7. Carefully pour the batter over the arranged bananas in the cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate. Let it cool for an additional 10 minutes before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Dust the cooled cake lightly with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh banana slices on top for an elegant touch.
