Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots
  • 1 Prise chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the diced onion and ground beef. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir until everything is well combined and heated through. Remove from heat.
  4. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the beef mixture evenly. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese. You may choose to top it in a creative pattern or simply blanket them across.
  6. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top. Return to the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  8. Once out of the oven, let it sit for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired, then serve and enjoy this delicious tater tot casserole!

💡 Chef's Notes

You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
