Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 10 oz cinnamon rolls with icing (store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough is formed.
  5. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the greased pie dish, creating a pie crust. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside.
  6. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg until well coated.
  7. Spread the apple filling evenly over the pre-baked pie crust.
  8. Open the tube of cinnamon rolls, and without separating them, slice each roll into quarters. Sprinkle the quartered pieces over the apple filling.
  9. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown, and the apples are tender.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Drizzle the provided icing over the warm pie before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve slices warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side and a sprinkle of additional cinnamon for an extra touch.
