Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 8 ounces shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite blend)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 Prise freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 Prise fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet until it’s about 0.25 inches thick.
  3. Cut the puff pastry into 16 rectangles (approximately 3x4 inches each).
  4. On each rectangle, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard, then place a slice of ham and sprinkle cheese over the ham.
  5. Season with freshly ground black pepper.
  6. Fold the pastry over to create a pocket, then seal the edges by pressing down with a fork.
  7. Brush the tops of the pastry pockets with the beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
  8. Place the pockets on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out to allow for puffing during baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. If desired, sprinkle with finely chopped chives for added flavor and color before serving.
