Instructions

  1. Sift the Matcha: Begin by sifting 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. This helps remove any clumps and ensures a smooth drink.
  2. Add Hot Water: Pour 2 ounces of hot water (not boiling) over the sifted matcha. If desired, add honey or agave syrup at this step for sweetness.
  3. Whisk: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small whisk, vigorously whisk the matcha until it becomes frothy and well combined. If you want a more robust flavor, whisk until the surface is covered with small bubbles.
  4. Optional Matcha Latte: If you prefer a matcha latte, heat and steam your milk separately. Combine the frothed matcha mixture with the steamed milk and mix gently, adding a pinch of vanilla extract if desired.
  5. Serve: Pour the matcha tea or latte into a cup. Enjoy hot or over ice.
  6. Garnish (optional): For an added touch, sprinkle a pinch of matcha powder or cinnamon on top.
